On the occasion of Doctor’s Day, on 1-7-22, The Modern School, Ghaziabad organised an interactive session by Dr Hemant Saluja, General Physician and Modernite of the 1989 Batch to enlighten the young minds of the school about good hygiene, balanced diet, stress, time management and discipline in life.
Only a doctor has a magical wand to treat life with his touch and care, give a healthy life, and be there when all hopes are lost, and our life is at risk. Dr Saluja focused on the importance of Life skills, Balanced diet, Discipline, dealing with emotions / destressing, Time management, Personal hygiene, Adequate Sleep, Physical exercise and Staying Healthy , Vaccinations & Social distancing.
The School Principal, Mrs Manju Mehra, with pride elaborated on her student Dr Hemant Saluja’s achievements and Ms Sony conducted the proceedings. Dr Saluja highlighted the top 10 core life skills recommended by World health Organisation. Since a healthy diet consists of different kinds of foods, the emphasis has been shifted from nutrient orientation to the food-based approach. Dr Saluja explained the importance of a balanced diet and how foods can be characterized according to their function.
He expressed his views on how nowadays, children are more inclined towards junk food and why it is very important to motivate kids in teenage to eat nutrition rich foods. He also said that many children have poor eating habits, which can lead to various long-term health complications, such as obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis and parents should keep making frequent changes in their menu to avoid boredom of eating the same food every day. He said that Discipline in student life means working with all honesty with strict adherence to rules and regulations, cultural standards, and values. Furthermore, he focused on stress and stressors, stating that the negative effects of stress can be physical and emotional and one can overcome them by Stress Relief Strategies that are Body relaxation exercises, breathing techniques, guided imagery, Physical exercise, meditation and counseling.
The session concluded on a positive note that to ensure good health - eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life. A comprehensive, thoughtful and child friendly session & surely a great way to welcome the students after the Summer Break!
